The Adventures of a Simpleton

by Hans Jakob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen

Simplicius is Germany's contribution to the genre of the picaresque novel. It is also maybe the first German work of fiction to be considered of literary merit. I have been reading it on and off for a few months; it is extremely funny at times but can be monotonous also.
