(Insert note about how I am taking on a couple different projects at the moment.)

(Insert note about what brings me to Metaphysics at the moment and what I've been doing with it.)

Quote from chapter One:

The animals other than man live by appearances and memories, and have but little of connected experience.

(Talk about connected experience as narrative. The "connection" is between appearances and memories; narrative is a way of making memories present, bringing them into relief above the chaotic background of the moment.)

So: "Appearances and memories" will stand in for a manner of existence that is pre-conscious, that cannot name the flickering wraiths around it and so is not separate from them. And "connected experience" for the self, the listening, talking narrative.
