READIN

Jeremy's journal

Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested: that is, some books are to be read only in parts, others to be read, but not curiously, and some few to be read wholly, and with diligence and attention.

🦋 Billy in the Lowground

For the first time in a little while, I've found a new fiddle tune I want to learn. Here is the Ether Frolic Mob (featuring Peter Stampfel, Craig Judelman, Stacey Samuels, Eli Smith, Jeffrey Lewis) playing "Billy in the Lowground":

A few other versions:

Also, turns out "Billy in the Lowlands", which is what I thought this song was called, is a movie.

hey fyi the version of billy in the lowground we're playing comes from the superb playing of Burnett and Rutherford, an old kentucky duo who recorded quite a few sides and became pretty popular, touring around back in the day when that wasnt easy to do... theres many versions of this song, but most sound like fiddle contest craziness, while theirs is super pretty and sweet...glad you liked what we did with it!
