READIN

Jeremy's journal

Although I have done it all these thirty years or more, although I live my life surrounded by other people who are always doing it, still I think that there are few activities so worthy of inspection as the reading of novels.

🦋 Vinyl in the mail

Hanukkah gifts from my parents arrived in the mail today -- my present looks suspiciously 12"X12" and flat... Could it be outmoded media?

Yes! It could indeed. It is "The Complete Fats Waller, vol. I 1934-1935", on Bluebird Records. Not only vinyl; mono vinyl. Thanks, mom and dad! Fats Waller is someone I only know as a name, I'm listening to side A right now and looking forward to familiarizing myself with his music. (But how'm I going to put it on my IPod?...)

Hey, not only mono vinyl but mint condition mono vinyl. I found it in a used book/music store in SF and had to get it for you. I definitely enjoy Fats, hope you do to.

A friend recently loaned me a turntable with a USB output, apparently these are rather cheap. With it you can import the sound into any sound-editing program and then convert to mp3 or whatever you like...and onto the iPod.

First reaction is, wow, he's got a great voice. I haven't heard most of these songs, though I'm assuming a lot of them are standards.
